Oracle of Balaam

“Oracle of Balaam”
Blessings folk!
The Lord gave Balaam another Word.
Balaam picked up his discourse and spoke…
Num 24:2-4
And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel camping tribe by tribe.
And the Spirit of God came upon him,
and he took up his discourse and said,
“The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor,
the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,
the oracle of him who hears the words of God,
who sees the vision of the Almighty,
falling down with his eyes uncovered:
ESV
Some interesting things can be gleaned, inferred and discerned beyond the immediate subject matter of these verses.
Note that the Spirit of God came upon Balaam.
We see this in the Word.
The Spirit will move upon someone, will come upon someone, etc.
This does not mean that the person themself is “set aside”.
Notice what Balaam does.
He hears the Words of God, still he is the one who speaks the oracle, the Word, the discourse.
The speaker has control over that which is spoken.
Whether to speak or not.
The structure of speech, etc.
’Tis a great mystery how the Lord speaks total truth through fallible man!
But, if the Lord can speak through Balaam’s ass…?
Balaam took up “his discourse”…his words.
He describes it as an oracle.
He gives some personal insight/testimony…
- he was the son of Beor
- his eye is open
- that is interesting! “Eye” of what?
- to see physically?
- to see into the “unseen realm”?
- yes!
- he hears the Words of God
- he sees the Vision of the Almighty
- he falls down - before the Lord? - with his eyes uncovered…he sees, he understands.
Balaam knows.
Balaam sees.
Balaam hears.
Balaam understands.
Do we?
What are we doing with such?
Are we being “as Balaam”?
