“Michael”
Blessings folk!
Yesterday we saw some of the deeds of the Creepers.
Give close heed to what they do.
Jude 1:8
Yet in like manner these people also,
relying on their dreams,
defile the flesh,
reject authority
and blaspheme the glorious ones.
ESV
They:
Rely: on their dreams
Defile: the flesh
Reject: authority
Blaspheme: the glorious ones.
The next verse ties to this.
Note the first word, “but”.
Jde 1:9
But when the archangel Michael
contending with the devil,
was disputing about the body of Moses,
he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said,
“The Lord rebuke you.”
ESV
For today, just look at the facts given.
Michael:
- “when”…a particularly point in time, an event
- an archangel
- contended with the devil
- was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses
- did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment (against the devil)
- said “the Lord rebuke you”
What is this about?
What happened?
Why did Jude use this encounter between Michael and the devil as an example flowing from verse 8…about the creepers?
What were the recipients to glean/learn?
What are we to understand?
