“Let Them Drink”
Blessings folk!
King Lemuel (Solomon?) is recounting an oracle from his mother.
He/she had given a warning that kings/leaders should not be prone to excessive drink.
The oracle continues…
Pro 31:6-7
Give strong drink to the one who is perishing,
and wine to those in bitter distress;
let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.
ESV
Strong drink is for someone dying.
To ease pain.
To ease passage?
Wine is for those in bitter distress…”those bitter of soul”.
Emotional.
Such drink can satiate poverty and misery.
Again, not to the point of inebriation.
Psa 104:14-15
You cause grass to grow for the livestock
and plants for people to use.
You allow them to produce food from the earth—
wine to make them glad,
olive oil to soothe their skin,
and bread to give them strength.
ESV
Ecc 9:7
Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart,
for God has already approved what you do.
