“Bad. Boasts”
Blessings folk!
Here is a little Proverbial nugget that gives insight into the state of affairs.
Truly, there is nothing totally new.
Look at how man is…
Pro 20:14
“Bad, bad,” says the buyer,
but when he goes away, then he boasts.
ESV
We have all seen this…done it?
We seek to buy something.
We downplay the product.
We belittle.
We wheedle.
We seek to deprecate the value.
Then…
When we have purchased.
We boast and brag about the “great deal we got”…how we “handled the seller”, etc.
I’m think’n such should not be.
It is fine to get the best deal.
It is good to negotiate.
It is good to know tactics.
It is not good to be pride-filled about one’s deception, chicanery and foolery.
The NLT makes is clearer…
Pro 20:14
The buyer haggles over the price, saying, “It’s worthless,”
then brags about getting a bargain!
Do not fall into this trap of lie, deception, “business”.
Such is not the way of the true Believer.
