And...Just As...

“And…Just As…”
Blessings folk!
Now, read closely.
We saw yesterday that Jude wanted to remind the readers of something.
What?
It was something they “fully knew”.
That Jesus saved a people out of Egypt.
That afterward, Jesus destroyed those who did not believe.
But there is more.
Read these three verses together.
Just for today, note the first words of each verse.
What is being said?
Jude 1
5 Now I want to remind you,
although you once fully knew it, that Jesus,
who saved a people out of the land of Egypt,
afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority,
but left their proper dwelling,
he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—
7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities,
which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire,
serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.
ESV
Verse 5…as we have seen…”now”…in light of the fact that he wanted to “exhort them to contend earnestly for the faith” because creepers were about.
Verse 6…”and”…this ties this verse back to verse 5…what Jesus did.
Verse 7…”just as”…this ties back to verse 5, 6…
The statement in verse 7 gives us insight into what occurred in verse 6.
What is happening here?
We likely are somewhat familiar with verse 7 and Sodom/Gomorrah.
But what of verse 6?
Angels who did not stay within their own position of authority?
Angels that left their proper dwelling?
Angels kept…
- in eternal chains
- under gloomy darkness
- until judgment
- of the great day
Eternal…until?
Is that eternal?
Humm…
To be continued…
