Abraham

“Abraham”
Blessings folk!
Paul had asked a question.
Does faith overthrow the law?
May it never be.
To the contrary.
Faith upholds/establishes the Law.
Paul then continues.
Remember all we have seen…
Rom 4:1-3
What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh?
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
For what does the Scripture say?
“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.”
ESV
“What then…Abraham…?”
Echoes of “what advantage has the Jew?”
Abraham.
Forefather of the Jew in the flesh.
Abraham…more…
Abraham was justified by faith.
If he had been justified by works, then he could have boasted in himself…but not God.
But he was not.
By faith!
How?
Abraham believed.
Believed what?
God!
God’s response?
God counted/reckoned/credited it to Abraham as righteousness.
Abraham was declared righteous because he believed.
Do we truly believe?
