A Lion!
July 29, 2022
“A Lion!”
Blessings folk!
Time for the Proverbist to pick up a recurring theme…the sluggard, the lazy, the slothful.
He has spoke much of the Sluggard already.
Give close heed to what is being said…
Pro 22:13
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside!
I shall be killed in the streets!”
ESV
What is being said?
What is the sluggard saying?
What is the Proverbist saying by communicating this?
Another translation…
Pro 22:13
The lazy person claims, “There’s a lion out there!
If I go outside, I might be killed!”
NLT
Ah!
The Sluggard is giving an excuse for his sluggardness!
He is saying “if I go outside to ‘do something’ I might be killed. There are lions about!”
The Sluggard creates/chooses fear and anxiety to justify their sloth and laziness.
The “yeh-buts” and “what-abouts” drive the sluggard.
The Sluggard uses any excuse to justify their life.
The Proverbist will tell us more later.
For today…
Be not a Sluggard.
